Visit varied landscapes filled with wildlife. From the plains of the Masai Mara, home of the big five, and between July and October, host to the great migration to the northern Shaba Game Reserve with its incredible landscapes and unique wildlife sightings.  

 

This itinerary spends and one week exploring three stunning wilderness areas. Shaba Game Reserve, home to unique species of wildlife not found in more southerly latitudes. Shaba is the setting for the iconic book and film 'Born Free'. Lake Nakuru, is one of the most reliable locations to view White Rhino and the rare Rothschild Giraffe and the Masai Mara, perhaps Africa's most exciting wildlife viewing destination.

SHABA NATIONAL RESERVE

After breakfast your adventure begins as you head north, passing through some breathtaking scenery dotted with rushing mountain streams and fields of tea and coffee. After Nanyuki town, continue north, eventually reaching a dusty outpost known as Isiolo, the last major stop on the journey into the remote northern frontier district. From here, it's a relatively short hop to Shaba Nature Reserve. Arrive at the lodge for lunch and then depart for an afternoon game drive looking for the area's abundant wildlife. Arrive back at the lodge as the sun sets.

DAY 2 

DAY 1 

NAIROBI

Arrive at Jomo Kenyetta International Airport, where you will be met and transferred to the Sarova Stanley Hotel. The Sarova Stanley is where travellers, including Ernest Hemingway, gathered for a

drink at the legendary Thorn Tree Café before or after a long safari. This afternoon is yours at leisure, if you arrive early enough, add on one of the many optional Nairobi excursions, such as an Out of Africa day tour or a visit to the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust.

DAY 3 

SHABA NATIONAL RESERVE

Head out on an early morning game drive. Return to the lodge for a special riverside breakfast next to the Ewaso Nyiro River. This al fresco dining is a once-in-a-lifetime experience and a meal you will never forget. Relax by the pool or terrace overlooking the river for the remainder of the morning. After lunch, head out on an afternoon game drive looking for the area's wildlife. Of particular note are the special species found only in northern Kenya - Reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, the beisa oryx, the gerenuk and the Somali ostrich.

LAKE NAKURU NATIONAL PARK

After breakfast, you will depart Shaba Game Reserve and travel south, crossing the northernmost foothills of Mount Kenya, on your way to your next location, the spectacular Lake Nakuru National Park. Once in the park, you will start spotting wildlife as you drive towards the lodge.  Following lunch and a siesta, there is an afternoon game drive returning to the lodge as the sun sets. The National Park, known for its birdlife, offers the possibility to see flamingoes in the shallow alkaline waters of Lake Nakuru. It is also home to Black and White rhinos as well as the endangered Rothschild Giraffe

DAY 4 

DAY 5 

MASAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE

Following an early morning breakfast, leave the flamingo-fringed Lake Nakuru behind and begin your ascent up over the top of the Mau Escarpment; then, heading due south, travel towards Narok, the gateway to the Masai Mara and district headquarters of this part of Maasailand. The journey to the Masai Mara takes you across the "breadbasket" of Kenya, covered with acres of wheat and barley, before reaching the Masai Mara in time for lunch. Following lunch and a siesta, there is an afternoon game drive.  Today enjoy a unique dining experience under the majesty of a star studded African sky, with an African barbecue as you sip on your favorite drink and listen to the calls of the wild. Don't be surprised if you are 'joined' by one of the residents of the wild Mara

MASAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE

Explore the Masai Mara with morning and afternoon game drives. The Mara, as it is colloquially referred to is Kenya's premier wildlife viewing destination and a fantastic place to spot predators such as lions, hyenas, leopards and cheetahs. For those that want to gain a birds eye view of the Masai Mara an optional hot air balloon can be added (additional cost).

DAY 6 

DAY 7 

DEPARTURE

Following breakfast, depart the Masai Mara and head across acres of rolling wheat and barley farms towards Nairobi. As you journey north, you will cross vast plains on the floor of the Rift Valley before heading up the rift escarpment on the road built by Italian prisoners during World War II. Arrive in Kenya’s bustling capital around mid-day. Once in the city, you will either be dropped off at your hotel or at the airport for onward arrangements.
